Marcia Weymouth

Having grown up with a brother that was deaf since birth, Marcia was led to pursue a bachelors of science in speech and hearing from Indiana University. She went on to earn her audiology degree from Utah State University in 1979, where she was the diving coach for the University. She developed the Audiology Center for the Panhandle Educational Service Center in Guymon, Oklahoma. During this time she worked regularly with hearing impaired patients and performed hospital screenings for infants. Marcia served as the staff audiologist for Mississippi College for the Deaf during 1980 and 1981, while continuing to provide audiology services for the public schools and preschools in the area. In 1981, Marcia moved to North Carolina to start her family and went on to raise three children and become an active coach in diving, dance, and gymnastics. During her time in North Carolina, Marcia has worked for four different audiology practices and hearing companies, and has sponsored apprenticeship for four specialists throughout the state. She worked for two years as the in-house audiologist for Lotus, previously a North Carolina hearing aid manufacturer. In 2004, Marcia began working for Lennox Gibbs and Auditory Advantage Hearing Healthcare and stayed on to work at the Greensboro location once Ryan assumed ownership of the company.

Lennox Anthony Gibbs

Lennox started in the hearing health industry in 1992, working in the marketing department for Nu-ear electronics (a division of Starkey labs) in San Diego, California. There he received intensive in-house training in all aspects of the industry. After involvement in the sale and installation of audiological equipment in a business-to-business environment, he discovered an ambition to be directly involved with consumers, helping hearing impaired people better understand the world around them through the use of hearing aids. In 1998, Lennox purchased Griffin Professional Hearing Aid Center, a distressed Shelby, North Carolina business, and re-incorporated it as Auditory Advantage Hearing Healthcare Professional. He turned its performance around and by 1999 was able to open a second outlet in Rutherfordton, North Carolina. Serving hearing impaired people from these two locations was a truly joyous achievement for Lennox, allowing him to excel in a business through compassion, professionalism and integrity. In 2005 he met Ryan Strickland through a partner's company and ultimately accepted an offer to sell Ryan and Ryan's partners the company, while at the same time maintaining a critical role in it to ensure success.

Our Story

Advantage Hearing & Audiology has a long history of helping patients in the NC and Virginia areas. Originally founded as Auditory Advantage Hearing Healthcare Professional by Lennox Gibbs, we served patients in Western NC. Current owner Ryan Strickland was introduced to the hearing industry in high school though his work at a company that specializes in manufacturing and repairing Hearing Aids for clinics around the country. When Ryan graduated from James Madison University, Lennox gave him the opportunity to assume ownership of the practice.

Upon purchasing the company, Ryan moved the main office location to Greensboro, North Carolina in 2005. Ryan then changed the company name to Advantage Hearing & Audiology and set out to provide the best available technology at all levels accompanied by exceptional follow up service and programming. Joining him was audiologist Marcia Waymouth and dispenser and repair specialist Brad Nunley. A few years later, Marissa Bannister joined him to manage the front office. In 2011 Rebecca Libera joined the team as a provider, joined soon after by Ronnie Slaughter.

Realizing a need for quality hearing services in northern NC, Ryan and Marissa opened the Advantage Hearing & Audiology location in 2009. In 2013 our third location was opened in Kernersville. To help manage our growing patient population, Raquel Cortes (who is fluent in both English and Spanish!) joined our team as a Patient Care Coordinator in 2013.

2015 was a year of further growth, as Ryan and Marissa have built a new office for our Eden location. Vicki Wilson has joined our family as a second Patient Care Coordinator and also insurance specialist.

We would love to add you to our growing family of happy patients who experience their AHA Moments every day! Schedule an appointment today!
